CCRC June Meeting

June 27, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Greetings Once Again Fellow Campbell County Patriots and Friends!

As many of you already know, the last two meetings of the Campbell County Republican Meeting have featured of couple firsts for us: remarks from our three NOMINATED Republican candidates for Constitutional Office in April, and our first Candidate Forum in May. Our June meeting promises to feature another first, as CCRC comes together as a full committee to endorse candidates for School Board and Board of Supervisors for the four districts up for election this fall.

I’ll share more about the endorsement process shortly, but first, I must hereby issue this official call to the next monthly meeting of the Campbell County Republican Committee on Tuesday evening, June 27, 2023, at 7 PM EDT in the Board of Supervisors meeting room in Rustburg, Virginia. Please see the attached agenda for the specific street address and order of business for the meeting. Please also review the draft minutes from the May 23 meeting which attached as well.

Once again, regular business (including the Chairman’s Report) will be kept to a minimum, so we can focus the June 27 meeting on the process of endorsing candidates for School Board and Board of Supervisors for Spring Hill, Concord, Sunburst, and Altavista Districts. The endorsement process will be conducted in four stages:

1. Each “qualified candidate” will be given up to three minutes to make his or her final case for the CCRC endorsement. Time limits will be enforced by clock, as during the Spring Hill District Candidate Forum. For our purposes, a “qualified candidate” is one who previously announced his/her intent to seek the CCRC Endorsement AND has satisfied all Virginia Department of Election requirements to appear on the General Election ballot. for Board of Supervisors or School Board. I will contact the Registrar on Wednesday to verify which candidates have satisfied those VA DOE requirements.

2. After all “qualified candidates” have completed their remarks, we will enter the voting phase. Active CCRC member in attendance will be called forward by roll call two or three at a time, and presented a paper ballot on which to privately mark his or her votes. When finished, voters will place their marked and once-folded ballots in the slotted ballot box located at the front of the meeting room (more info about the paper ballots below).

3. After all ballots have been cast, the tabulation committee will count the votes in a side room, using redundant counting and cross-checking to assure accuracy. Every candidate, or his/her representative, will be able to observe the entire tabulation process to assure that the entire process is conducted fairly and transparently. Note that this tabulation process will be conducted in parallel with the Agenda Item for “New Business as Properly Raised”. The point here is to reduce meeting duration as much as we can.

4. Once the tabulation process has been completed, the tabulation committee will publicly announce the results to all CCRC members and interested parties who remain in attendance (some may choose to exit after voting but before tabulation results are announced). The results will also be emailed the following day to all on the CCRC email list.

Now, a quick description of the paper ballots that we will use. The ballot will consist of a single sheet of letter-size paper with print on one side. The printed side will be divided into four sections for the four districts up for election, sequenced on the basis of the numbers assigned to them by the VA DOE: 2-Sunburst, 3-Altavista, 5-Spring Hill, 6-Concord. Each section will include the name or names of “qualified candidate(s)” for Board of Supervisor and for School Board for the corresponding district. Each section will also include an option for “No Endorsement” for each office, for selection by any CCRC member who would prefer not to endorse a candidate for a particular race. CCRC members are encouraged to mark the ballot for all races in all four districts, whether it is to endorse or not endorse a candidate.

In closing, I encourage all of our active CCRC members make their best efforts to attend our important June 27 meeting and to participate in the endorsement process described above.
